I've had a lot of fun trying new products this month! There are lots of awesome reusable products out there that help make reducing your plastic use easier. I wanted to shine a spotlight on some of the things I've tried this month that I have really loved!
So first up is the reusable cup I chose to carry around with me to reduce the amount of disposable cups I use. It's estimated that 2.6 million single-use beverage containers are thrown out every week. While many single-use cups are paper, and even compostable, they rarely make it into the proper recycling containers and end up in the landfill. Putting your paper cups into the recycling and your compostable cups into your food waste is a good step in the right direction, but the more we can limit how much we use single use cups the better. If you're in a bind, need a beverage, and are stuck without your reusable cup, on top of making sure your single use cup is properly disposed of, not taking a plastic lid or other plastic accessories is another positive change you can make. Using reusable cups is great for another reason, a lot of coffee shops offer discounts for bringing your own beverage container, who doesn't like saving money?
What cup have I been using? KeepCup!
Why? I was first attracted to the fact that KeepCup offers the ability to design your own cup. I figured if I was going to buy a cup that I was going to be re-using time after time I better get something I love. They have a lot of colours, sizes, and styles to choose from. There are even different themed cups.
What I love: There are many things I love. My cup, the KeepCup Brew, is made out of fully tempered soda lime glass and other sustainable materials. It is specifically designed to be barista standard so my drink quality is never sacrificed by using my own cup. I love the feel of drinking out of a glass cup over a paper or plastic one; it does a great job of keeping my beverage at a drinkable temperature for an appropriate amount of time.
KeepCup has been a great choice for me, the Australian company is committed to encouraging the use of reusable cups, they are trying to change the way we think about convenience culture. To learn more about KeepCup check them out here.
